Opening Credit Sequences.

Opening Credit Sequences - How have real companies used elements such as sound, font and background to enhance their title sequences.

Toy story opening credits/titles/logos

Sound -

The sound in the opening credits of toy story is a very happy and cheerful tone especially when the song 'You've got a friend in me' comes on, this song is well known for it's connotations of happiness, this enhances the companies title sequence as it is a perfect fit for a young target audience as this sort of light weighted happy music will appeal to them a lot, also in general even an older target may prefer something happy like this. The title/logo 'Toy Story' and 'Walt Disney' also denotes that the movie is very light hearted and happy, for a young target audience.

Font -

The font in the opening credits is shown on the titles/logos and other pieces of writing  'Walt Disney' shows a curly, bubble font as well as sparkles flying around the logo connoting something magical, and fun for the younger target audience, this is a useful logo to use as many people know who they are and so they are more likely to bring in a big audience. The title 'Toy Story' has a very colorful font which again would a appeal to a younger target audience as research shows, younger people interact better with colors. Lastly, other pieces of writing such as when it says ' saloon' and ' skool' that is more or less scratched onto the box, this connotes a low understanding of reading and writing which is most common among the younger target audience, this means that they will be able to relate clearly with that and understand what is going on but at a lower understanding. The font has enhanced the companies title sequence as they were quite conventional types of font aimed towards a younger target audience.

Background -

Throughout the opening credits, the audience is able to see that the background remains the same. The background is of a kids bedroom that has lots of toys in it, the boys is playing with the toys as the credits start to appear, also when the the title appears behind it is a background of clouds, this all connotes that the movie is strongly aimed at a younger target audience.

Overall, the sound, font and backgrounds are used to enhance the companies title sequence, this is because they connote a clear use of demographics for their target audience such as age, gender (male and female) etc.

Here are the opening credits for toy story, enjoy!

Sound -

The company have used sounds to enhance their title sequence by firstly using the song 'You know my name' by Chris Cornell, this song connotes  as an exciting, action packed movie in which to get the audience going so that they are interested within the first seconds of the movie. Also, the use of a diagetic sound of the gun firing at the start gets the audience pumped as they know that they are going to see the intro next.

Font -

The company have used font to enhance their title sequence by firstly in one part of the opening credits a seven of hearts gets shot twice to create 007 which represents is James bond. This connotes the thrill that is yet to to come.

Here the company has used quite a royal tone towards the font of 'Casino Royale' by also having quite a formal and direct look towards it which is thus for an older target audience.

Background -

The background is most probably the best feature of 'casino royale' as it contains the most detailed imagery of the opening credits, bond movies are famous for having one of the best opening credits. firstly the use of the famous gun barrel with blood falling down is one of the most looked forward to part of the opening credits.

In this last screen grab, the background connotes the complex nature of the movie, it also connotes the difficulties that bond faces in the movie due to the intertwining lines as well as kings and queens that denotes the segregation between the two qualities, similar to a binary opposite.

Overall, the sound, font and background help to enhance the companies title opening sequence as they interacted with the audience in such a direct and conventional way that it has done in the past few bond movies that it gives exactly what the audience is after.
